Some cases involve traumatic events, which can profoundly affect the stability of our communications.
Cases such as these can affect the mental health of any individual.
As we cannot conduct a mediation if someone is not in a sound state of mind, individuals are better off seeking therapy or counselling until they find themselves better integrated.
Addictions and abuse are such instances of traumatic interaction between parties and can lead to an imbalance of power.
That is not to say that you cannot still mediate after you have taken some time to go to therapy. I can help refer you to and recommend where you may find the best help.
Alleviating the tension and confusion that are hallmarks of such disputes goes a long way to finding clarity. Once this has been addressed, you will be better positioned to mediate.
If you feel strong enough and believe you can mediate from a solid mental health position, please get in touch with me. Please note that I cannot mediate allegations of sexual abuse or ongoing domestic violence. These need to be referred back to litigation or a case manager if there has been some legal/psycho-legal outcome and recommendations from that.
